  1. No, I wouldn’t even consider that for diabetes. If they have a glandular and.or metabolic problem resulting in obesity, then treat the glandular/metabolic problem.

    If it’s due to simply eating poor food and eating to much of it, they need to change their eating habits. On the TV show “the biggest loser” they do it without surgery. It’s just a lot of hard work. If surgery is even being considered then the weight is certainly approaching life threatening. Bariatric surgery isn’t going to take the weight off, it’s decrease in food intake that results in the weight loss. That can be accomplished without surgery. Adjust insulin levels while they lose weight. If it’s from eating habits and they won’t lose weight, I’d consider them non-compliant diabetic.
