Blood Pressure Meds Said to Help Prevent Diabetic Retinopathy | Diabetes News Hound | January 25, 2010

High blood pressure meds may help fight or prevent diabetic retinopathy, a condition that causes damage to the blood vessels in the retina and can lead to blindness. New research suggests that the drug candesartan, which is known as an angiotensin receptor blocker, helped prevent 70% of diabetes-linked proteins in the retina from undergoing atypical changes, according to an article from HealthDay News. This particular research was conducted on mice.
